Concrete Forming and Base Prep at West CenterTech in Aurora
- Aurora, CO
- Commercial construction site
At West CenterTech on North Laredo Street in Aurora, Asphalt Coatings Company crews got the ground ready for new concrete. Over three days they laid out the edges with string lines and a laser level, set long runs of steel and wood forms, and spread gravel base. A tall new concrete retaining wall already stood on the site, and our crew worked the gravel trench along its foot as well.

Laying out and forming the edges
Forming at West CenterTech moved from survey lines to finished forms over the first two days.

Lay out
String lines and stakes went in along the dug-out edge of the site, next to the public sidewalk.

Check grade
A laser level on a tripod set the height for the steel forms waiting on the graded dirt.

Set steel forms
Staked steel forms now run in a straight line along the street side.

Set wood forms
The next morning, the crew carried in lumber and staked wood forms to follow a curve.

Wet the base
Inside the finished forms, a crew member wet down the compacted gravel base with a hose.
Gravel along the retaining wall
On the third day, the work moved to the narrow trench between the retaining wall and the cut earth. Gravel was shoveled in and spread along a concrete footing strip at the base of the wall.
